Federal investigators searched Mangione's home in April and allegedly found the images on his computer.
Authorities said Mangione is likely to make his initial court appearance on Wednesday when the exact charges would typically be made public.

Justice Department, FBI and ICE officials declined to comment on the highly controversial case brought against the suspended special agent in charge of ICE’s South
Mangione was placed on paid administrative leave in April after BSO deputies and FBI agents began investigating four images of child porn he allegedly received on his home computer via an AOL e-mail account, according to sources familiar with the probe.
An investigation found even more child porn on his computer over the coming months as forensic analysis was conducted on his computer and other electronic equipment to determine whether Mangione sent, received or distributed illegal digital images of children.
AOL monitors the distribution of child pornography by its users and when they found the images sent to Mangione's computer they alerted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
This led to the identity of Mangione, enabling the FBI to obtain a search warrant and seize his computer.
According to the Miami Herald, as special agent in charge of ICE’s South Florida office, Mangione often praised the agency’s efforts to fight child pornography in both the cyber and real worlds.
He was planning on retiring this summer after having worked with customs for 27 years.
