IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies found five children living in deplorable conditions in an Iredell County home after their grandfather died.
Deputies responded to the home on West Winds Loop in the northern part of the county to investigate the report of a death, according to WSOC.
They found the 62-year-old grandfather deceased in the home.
According to deputies, the home was in extremely unsanitary condition with large amounts of trash, dirty clothing and food scattered on the floors. There were also plumbing leaks and raw sewage in the bathrooms.
Social services took the five children, ages 9 months to 13 years old, into protective custody.
The children’s parents, 25-year-old Melissa Poole and 39-year-old Jeremy Dishner, were arrested and charged with five counts of misdemeanor child abuse.
